Fees
My current rates are $225/session for individuals and $260/session for couples and families. I can sometimes offer sliding-scale options, typically during my daytime hours. Please contact me to discuss your needs. If I am not able to accommodate you, I will refer you to a trusted colleague and/or provide a list of local sliding-scale counseling centers.
Insurance
I currently accept the Modern Health and UC Berkeley SHIP (Blue Shield) insurance plans. I do not work directly with other insurance companies. If your insurance plan includes "out-of-network" coverage for mental or behavioral health, you may be able to submit claims and get some percentage of fees reimbursed. If you would like to submit a claim to your insurance company, I will give you a superbill and can review the claim-submission process with you.
Finding the Right Therapist
Because therapy involves a lot of vulnerability, it is essential that you work with a therapist whom you trust. During our early sessions, and throughout therapy, I will encourage you to pay close attention to your feelings about the therapy process and bring them up with me. I welcome your feedback and will not take it personally if you decide not to work with me. If I am not the right fit, I can refer you to other local therapists and/or mental health resources in my extensive network of trusted colleagues.
Frequency of Sessions
I will most likely recommend that we meet once weekly, at the same time each week. This consistency allows a working relationship to form more easily and gives you a chance to integrate the practices we explore in therapy in your life and track whether therapy is working. Other options (such as bi-weekly sessions) are sometimes possible. I am currently available to meet online or by phone
How Will I Know if Therapy is Working?
Therapy will help you identify the root causes of your emotional pain and develop strategies for finding relief. It will help you address negative thinking and relational patterns to build stronger trust in yourself and others. We will discuss your desired time-frame for therapy at the outset and identify resources beyond therapy to support your goals. I will invite you to review your goals with me regularly to see how we can make changes and/or come up with a plan for additional steps. Active participation in therapy should yield clear and recognizable progress.
Good Faith Estimate
A 2022 federal law requires health care providers to give clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an annual estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services. You can ask your health care provider for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, or at any time during treatment. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. I will automatically provide you with a Good Faith Estimate after our first session and each January thereafter, or at anytime you request one during our work together. If you are not planning to use insurance to pay for therapy and are considering working with me and would like a Good Faith Estimate before beginning our work, please ask and I will provide one. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, or how to dispute a bill, see your Estimate, or visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
